Egg #001 (Chicken Scratch)

2024

Charcoal on Paper
42 x 59.4cm

Notes: From a body of drawings made with charcoal chicken bones. The same process as with the Bone Black series of paintings only the charred bone is used raw before being crushed.

The whole body of drawings are grouped under the title Chicken Scratch, a slang term for poor handwriting. Also a nod to the Yoruba people’s belief that the earth was created from a chicken scratching the dirt into place.
